John Latimer, Key-note speaker
Join Grand Rapids mail carrier John Latimer as he describes his observations of the outdoors as nature prepares for the transition from fall to winter. John’s stories will reveal how plant and animal life are influenced by the seasons.
John, whose father was a forester, has been observing nature closely for many years. He serves now as staff phenologist at KAXE/KBXE Northern Community Radio with studios in Grand Rapids and Bemidji.

28th Annual Ozawindib Walk

Walk: 1:30-3:30
Join the Friends of Itasca State Park during the peak of fall colors for a family fun afternoon during the 28th Annual Ozawindib Walk. Sponsored by Friends of Itasca State Park, the Ozawindib Walk commemorates Ozawindib, the Ojibwe guide who lead Henry R. Schoolcraft to the Headwaters of the Mississippi River in 1832.
Board member Doug Williams reported: “Around 55 people enjoyed a beautiful walk and a great presentation by Connie. A large group of German exchange students were counted in the attendees. Sehr gut! Doug”
Board member Dan with grandson. “He did actually walk a little bit, but preferred to be carried by g’ma and enjoy a bird’s eye view compliments of g’pa for the lectures.”
